Manzanillo
Manzanillo is one of the last places in the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula still unaffected by the large tourism industry. Here you will find a town with maybe a handful of bars and restaurants and humble homes belonging to ticos and foreigners alike who enjoy laid-back living and a friendly atmosphere. It is truly a pleasure to arrive here and experience the peaceful nature of this town that is accented by the amazing golden sunsets and the gentle lapping waves upon the beach.
The pueblo is actually a kilometer inland and can be accessed by roads from Cobano and Mal Pais. The drive from Cobano offers spectacular views of rolling farmland on a fairly decent road. If driving from Mal Pais, one gets to experience the true beauty of Manzanillo while winding along a bumpy coastal road which allows for amazing views of deserted, pristine beaches and enormous ancient trees.
The beach of Manzanillo has a natural barrier reef providing the perfect playground for all types of beach activities, such as kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, and surfing. Also, there isfishing and kayaking in the Rio Manzanillo. Families especially love Manzanillo for its safe, secluded coastline, and everyone enjoys the beach for a horseback ride, a quiet walk, and "el artadecer dorado," the golden sunset.
