Montezuma
Montezuma has always been the most popular tourist destination for eco-tourists and backpackers on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. One look at the picturesque tropical beaches, waterfalls, and landscape will tell you why. Montezuma's international fame can also be attributed to the wide variety of restaurants, bars and shops, along with a reading library, a place to watch nightly movies, street vendors, and the occasional international festival.
Montezuma truly has something for everyone. The laid-back tourist can find solace on a secluded beach separated by rocky headlands and tide pools while taking some time to beach-comb. On the flip side, there is plenty to do for the party-seeking tourist looking for an affordable adventure with an offbeat twist. Even surfers, if they know the right beach and the right tide, can find a decent wave.
Montezuma has all the activities of other beach towns on the peninsula, but also offers a canopy tour, road access to the Cabo Blanco Reserve, a lovely waterfall hike, and Tortuga Island snorkeling tours. As for accommodations, one can find almost anything for any type of budget, but just book early if planning to stay December through February.
