Mal Pais
While descending into Mal Pais from Cobano and catching the first few glimpses of this beautiful coastline, the traveler is left with no choice but to think the name Mal Pais, bad country, must be attributed to the roads, not the village. This mellow little village consists of three kilometers of road that ends at the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve in the south and the now tourist surf mecca of Santa Teresa. The road through Mal Pais is 200 meters from the beach. This distance has helped preserve the pristine and quiet beaches of volcanic rock and sand.
Mal Pais consists mostly of unique hotels and restaurants as well as a residential community that still remains hidden despite a rapid growth in recent years.
For those looking for activities, Mal Pais offers just about everything. The most fascinating panoramic sunsets can be seen whether hiking the hills or riding horseback. As for water sports, beginners or experts, scuba diving, sport fishing and surfing, are all available.
